The latest results: Jennifer West and Kurt Brinkman – not Frank Flores, who was four votes ahead of Brinkman in the preliminary count – have been elected to the Emeryville City Council. The new total includes all permanent absentee and provisional ballots. The new results were posted by the Alameda County Registrar of Voters at 2:30 p.m. today, Nov. 5. The results are still being listed as preliminary, while the Registrar completes its audit. The counts are expected to be made official early next week, according to the Registrar’s office.
Jennifer West easily won one of two seats with a whopping 855 votes (56%). Kurt Brinkman received 746 votes (31.8%), and Frank Flores, 739 (31.5%).
All three incumbents of the Emery Unified School Board were re-elected, with Cheryl Webb receiving the most votes at 879 (27.37%), followed by Joshua Simon, 844 (26.26%), and Miguel Dwin, 737 (22.95%). Brian Donahue and Darice Bridges received 476 votes (14%) and 272 votes (8.47%), respectively.
Measure K, which increases the tax on the city’s card rooms, was passed 1,156 (83%) to 232. The tax will go from 9 percent to 10 percent under the new measure.

Way to go Jennifer and Kurt!
Jennifer West wins a landslide…think they'll do to her what they did to Fricke?
It's a shame, Frank Flores would have done a great job.
Nothin' shamefull about it! It's the people's will and it's wunnerful, wunnerful!
Wahooo!!! Take that Nora…take that Dick!
Boy, the Chamber of Commerce didn't have a very good day Tuesday. This is their nightmare senario. All those developers aren't too happy about this I'd bet.
New chapter in Emeryville history? Maybe the people will get a fair shot with the developers.
Don't count on it
Clarification re post by Frank Emery Flores:
Secret News editor Tracy Schroth did have a conversation with Mr. Flores at the Doyle Street Park opening, asked him a few basic questions (ie where he lived, how long he's lived in Emeryville) took his picture, and explained that the reason for the questions, and the photo, was that TSN planned to interview all the candidates at a later date for a story in TSN. At Ms. Schroth's request, Mr. Flores gave her his phone number so that TSN could contact him to set up the interview.
Congratulations to Mrs. West and Mr. Brinkman! I noticed in a previous story (http://e-villenews.blogspot.com/2009/10/normal.html) that Mr. Brinkman was a supporter of building conversions like Vue46. I hope that bodes well for future developments in Emeryville!
Not a fan of Vue46, eh? Can't say that I blame you. Another soulless loft development in Emeryville.
Let's just hope these two new council members do as they said they would during their campaigns. Remember you two; livability…that's what you said you were interested in.
